In January 2026, A-kassa conducted a survey among its members on their employment situation. The survey examined members’ views on their own employment status. The results were compared with a similar survey carried out a year earlier. According to the results, members’ confidence in their own employment situation has remained unchanged, even though the share of unemployed members has increased.
In the January 2026 survey, 37 per cent of respondents described their employment situation as promising. The share is the same as in January 2025. However, the number of unemployed respondents has increased. 32 per cent reported that they were unemployed and continuing to seek work, compared with 30 per cent a year earlier.
Risk of work ending remains almost unchanged
In January 2026, 11 per cent of respondents estimated that their work was coming to an end or that they were at risk of being laid off, compared with 12 per cent a year earlier. The change is minor, suggesting that overall, the labour market situation for members of the A-kassa has remained stable over the past year.
Concern about employment situation has decreased
The most significant change is seen in concerns related to the employment situation. In January 2026, only 17 per cent of respondents chose the option “Concerned about employment situation”, compared with 21 per cent a year earlier. This represents a decrease of four percentage points.
The decrease in concern may reflect cautious confidence in economic developments or in one’s own employment prospects. The results suggest that although unemployment affects an increasing number of people, the experience of uncertainty has at the same time eased.
Summary
Based on the A-kassa’s employment situation survey, members’ confidence in their own employment situation has remained stable, even though the proportion of unemployed members has increased. At the same time, concern about one’s own employment situation has clearly decreased, which may indicate adaptation to prolonged uncertainty and cautious confidence in the future.
