Finnish Food Workers’ Unemployment Fund will merge with the Open Unemployment Fund A-kassa at the beginning of next year. The decision to merge was approved at the meeting of the Open Unemployment Fund, 26 May 2023. The Finnish Food Workers’ Unemployment Fund made a positive decision earlier, on 22 May 2023.
The merger is scheduled to take place from 1 January 2024. With more than 228,000 members, A-kassa is the third largest unemployment fund in Finland. As a result of the merger, 17,220 members will transfer to A-kassa.
The merger of the funds does not require any action from members of the Finnish Food Workers’ Unemployment Fund at this stage, as current membership of the unemployment fund will automatically be transferred to the A-kassa from the beginning of next year. If any measures are required, we will inform you in advance towards the end of the year. Existing members of the A-kassa will not be affected by the change.
In addition to the decisions of the unemployment funds, the merger also requires the consent of the Financial Supervisory Authority.
A-kassa is a general and a multidisciplinary unemployment fund, which is open to all employees. A-kassa pays out earnings-related unemployment benefits to its members.
