Under 25 years old: remember to apply for studies

News, Studies

4.3.2024

The call for post-secondary education applications for spring is now open. To receive unemployment benefit, a young person under the age of 25 must apply for at least two study places for studies starting the next fall, if she/he does not have the necessary education.

The conditions for receiving daily allowance for those under the age of 25 include the obligation to apply for at least two study places. However, the education does not necessarily have to be applied for in a joint application, but it must lead to a degree.

Do I have to apply for study places?

If you are under 25 years old and have not completed education leading to a degree after elementary school or upper secondary school, you must apply for two study places for studies starting in the fall.

What happens if I don’t apply for study places?

If you have not applied for study places, you cannot receive unemployment benefit. In addition, refusing or interrupting training can lead to the loss of unemployment benefits.

Under the age of 25, the obligation to apply for study places also applies to those situations in which you would have fulfilled the working condition of the earnings-related allowance.

What do I have to do?

Apply for at least two study places for the education starting in the fall, if you are not yet 25 years old and do not have the necessary degree.

The spring joint application for studies after basic education is underway 20.2.–19.3.2024. Instead, the joint application of higher education institutions is ongoing 13.3.2024 klo 8.00 – 27.3.2024 klo 15.00. You can get more information about the joint application and study options at Opintopolku.
