There are many things to keep in mind and remember to do when applying for earnings-related allowance, restructuring protection allowance, or mobility allowance.
Many of these involve a specific time limit during which the action must be taken or by which it must be completed. Some deadlines are very strict, while others are a bit more flexible. To make it easier to remember the different time limits – and to make the application process smoother – we’ve gathered them all in one place.
Before you become unemployed
- You can already register as an unemployed job seeker when you know the end date of your work.
First day of unemployment
- Register as an unemployed job seeker no later than this date.
Throughout your unemployment
- Keep your job search active.
- Report any changes in your employment or unemployment.
Within 60 days of being given notice of termination
- To receive the restructuring protection allowance, you must register as a jobseeker on Job Market Finland within 60 days of being given notice of termination.
- The date of termination refers to the day the notice was given. If the notice period is long, you must register on Job Market Finland even before your unemployment begins.
2 full calendar weeks
- You can fill in the first application for two weeks, ending on a Sunday. The application is always submitted to the unemployment fund afterwards.
4 calendar weeks or a month
- Follow-up applications are filled in for four calendar weeks or full calendar months. The application is always submitted to the unemployment fund afterwards.
4 calendar weeks or a month and part-time work
- If you work part-time during unemployment, ill in the applications according to the salary payment periods for either 4 calendar weeks or a month. The application is always submitted to the unemployment fund afterwards.
3 months from the start of lay-off or unemployment
- the application must be in the Unemployment Fund within this period at the latest.
- this application period also applies to follow-up applications and reimbursement of expenses.
8 consecutive calendar weeks
- The waiting period must accrue during this period.
During the notice period or no later than 3 months after the end of the employment relationship
- You can apply for the restructuring protection allowance already during the notice period, but it must be applied for no later than 3 months after the employment has ended.
No later than 3 months after starting work or training
- The mobility allowance must be applied for no later than three months after the start of the work or training.
Immediately
- Notify the fund of any changes that affect your right to or the payment of the allowance.
Notify the fund if you have been granted a benefit that prevents the payment of the allowance, such as old-age pension, disability pension, sickness allowance, or similar.
More than 6 months out of the labour market
- The accumulation of the employment condition starts from the beginning.
You are sick for more than 10 days
- You can apply for sickness allowance from Kela
- Inform the unemployment fund of your sickness and of your application for Kela’s sickness allowance in your daily allowance application.
