When your unemployment or lay-off ends and you return to work, your thoughts naturally turn to what lies ahead. However, there are still a few unemployment security matters you should take care of to ensure that the payment of your daily allowance ends or continues correctly.
Remember these when you start work
When you return to work, notify the employment authority and A-kassa that you are starting work. The duration of the employment and your working hours affect what you need to do and whether you can continue to receive earnings-related daily allowance.
- Notify the employment authority that you are starting work in the E-services section of Job Market Finland.
- Notify A-kassa that you are starting work in your application for daily allowance. You do not need to send a separate message in the eService.
- If you start part-time work or full-time work lasting no more than two weeks, report the hours you have worked in your application. Keep your job search valid, as you may still be entitled to adjusted earnings-related daily allowance.
- Submit any requested documents or information if they are needed to process your application.
How does starting work affect your earnings-related daily allowance?
The effect depends in particular on whether you start full-time or part-time work and how long the employment lasts.
You start full-time work lasting more than two weeks:
Payment of the earnings-related daily allowance ends when the work starts. Send A-kassa your final application for daily allowance and report that you have started work.
You start part-time work or full-time work lasting no more than two weeks:
You may still be entitled to adjusted earnings-related daily allowance if the other eligibility conditions are met.
Keep your job search valid and continue applying for earnings-related daily allowance. Report your working days and working hours in the application according to the instructions. In some situations, your application period may change. The wages you receive from your work affect the amount of your earnings-related daily allowance.

If you start another job during a lay-off
If you start another job during a lay-off, notify the employment authority and A-kassa. If the other job is part-time, you may still be entitled to adjusted earnings-related daily allowance. If you start full-time work lasting more than two weeks, earnings-related daily allowance is not paid for the period of full-time work.
If your lay-off ends in termination of employment, also notify the employment authority and A-kassa.
What if the job ends later?
If the new job you have started is fixed-term or ends for another reason, check the status of your job search in good time in the E-services section of Job Market Finland. Payment of earnings-related daily allowance requires that your job search is valid.
