A new obligation concerning job search will take effect at the beginning of September. From 1 September 2026, publishing a job applicant profile on Job Market Finland will become part of the job search.
To receive earnings-related daily allowance, you must register as an in the E-services section of Job Market Finland and keep your job search valid. From the beginning of September, publishing a job applicant profile will become part of the job search process. Publishing a job applicant profile alone does not start your job search. If you are about to start your job search, remember that creating a job applicant profile and registering as a jobseeker are two different things.
A new jobseeker has 15 weekdays to publish their profile
From the beginning of September, a new unemployed jobseeker must, as a rule, complete and publish a job applicant profile within 15 weekdays of starting their job search.
If your job search started before 1 September 2026, the obligations related to the job applicant profile will apply to you the next time you use employment services.
If you do not publish your profile by the deadline, the employment authority will enter the minimum required information and publish the profile on your behalf. You can still supplement and update your profile afterwards.
In certain situations, the employment authority may also determine that publishing a profile is not necessary or appropriate in the jobseeker’s circumstances.
What does the change mean for earnings-related daily allowance?
The unemployment fund can pay earnings-related daily allowance only for periods when your job search is valid with the employment authority and the other conditions for receiving earnings-related daily allowance are met.
It is therefore important to remember that these are two separate things:
- Register as an unemployed jobseeker in the E-services section of Job Market Finland. Do this no later than your first day of unemployment or lay-off. Your job search cannot be made valid retroactively.
- Make sure you meet the new obligation concerning the job applicant profile. From the beginning of September, publishing the profile and keeping it valid will, as a rule, become part of job search.
The employment authority assesses the labour policy requirements concerning the validity of your job search and your obligations as a jobseeker. A-kassa, in turn, determines your entitlement to earnings-related daily allowance and pays the allowance when the conditions for receiving it are met.
A well-prepared profile can also help you find employment
Although the job applicant profile will become a new obligation, it is also worth seeing it as an opportunity. The profile allows you to tell employers about your skills, work experience and the kind of work you are looking for. Employers may also find you through your profile for hidden job opportunities, meaning positions that may never be publicly advertised.
It is therefore worth completing your profile carefully and keeping it up to date. At best, the new obligation may also open up a new route to your next job.
