Unemployed at the turn of the year? Register as a jobseeker by Dec 29, 2024

News

9.12.2024

This year, the last day for registering as an unemployed jobseeker is Sunday, Dec 29, 2024. Please note that E-services at Job Market Finland where registration takes place are down for maintenance at the turn of the year as employment services information systems are updated. The service shuts down on Monday, Dec 30, 2024, at 8:00 AM, and comes back online on Thursday, Jan 2, 2025, at 8:00 AM.

The purpose of the systems update is to prepare for the transfer of responsibility for organising employment services from the state to municipal co-management areas on Jan 1, 2025.

During the service interruption, you cannot log in to Job Market Finland and register as a jobseeker, a prerequisite for receiving unemployment benefits. If your unemployment or lay-off begins during the service interruption, you should register as a jobseeker before the scheduled interruption.

You can register as a jobseeker while employed, with your unemployment or lay-off set to commence later. This way, you can ensure that you have registered as a jobseeker in due time. By registering well in advance, you may also speed up the process, as there is no need to retroactively edit the start date of your status as a jobseeker.

Follow these steps

  • If your unemployment or lay-off begins between Dec 30, 2024, and Jan 1, 2025, log in to Job Market Finland’s E-services by Dec 29, 2024, and register as an unemployed jobseeker. After this, the municipality or employment area will guide you on your next steps in maintaining your status as a jobseeker.
  • After two weeks have passed, please fill out a daily allowance application at the online service of your unemployment fund.

If you did not register as a jobseeker before the service interruption

If you did not register as a jobseeker before the service interruption and your unemployment or lay-off begins during the interruption, contact your local employment authority. Starting January 2025, you can find the contact information for your local employment authority at your municipality’s website. Information on local employment authorities is available on the regional pages of Job Market Finland.
